There used to be a commercial that said ‘there is an app for that’ and now that saying includes Seattle-based Group Health. The app was created by both Group Health and Slalom consulting (a national company with an office here in Seattle) to bring a better relationship between Group Health and their customer.
“Group Health is thrilled to offer members access to their shared medical
record through the new Group Health Mobile application for the iPhone,”
says Gwen O’Keefe, MD, chief medical informatics officer for Group
In the next few paragraphs we will go over the different app features.
Seeing your test results. While there is still no replacement for actually having your doctor go over your test results with you it is handy to be able to have those results at your finger tips (without having to fumble with papers) in case you need to call and ask a question later. It can also come in handy if you need to visit another GH clinic when you are out of town.
Getting appointment reminders. Lets face it all of at one time have forgotten an appointment for one reason or another. Most of us that have a mobile device usually keep it on and near by so what easier way to track of your appointments.
E-mail access to doctors. Just getting through when you call the clinic isn’t always easy let alone getting your doctor.
Find nearest Group Health. It usually never fails that when you need an emergency appointment that it is at a time when you are out of town and need to find where the closes clinic is located. At times like those it is nice to know that you can just quickly find what you need by looking it up on your mobile device.
Access medical records. There is nothing worse then when you are in a new clinic, doctors office or hospital and when you go to fill out the paperwork you have no idea how to answer a question about your medical history.
The ability to check wait times. No one likes getting to the clinic only to have to wait to see a doctor. Even though it doesn’t eliminate that wait it is nice to know that you can look up how long the wait time is and be better prepared when you get there.
Group Health plans on adding more features in the near future to give patients even more access to the services they want. Their are plans to create a version for android-based mobile devices but no mention of one for windows 7 phones.
