When it comes to shows returning for new seasons as of late, one of the most-common strategies used as is that of the time jump. Why? Not does it give you that “fresh start” feeling, but it also provides so much distance that it makes you feel that the characters do not constantly have drama in their lives. (Such shows to use this strategy lately include “True Blood,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and “Dexter” for the upcoming season.)
So with that, it may be a little bit of a surprise to some that this next season of “Grey’s Anatomy” is only going to kick off five full days after the finale. As for why this show is going down such a road, executive producer Shonda Rhimes does her best to explain:
“[Story-wise] we pick up pretty much where we left off … Meredith and Derek have a lot of things to work out. They have their personal relationship, they have their parenting relationship, and they have their work relationship.”
As we have written about previously, we will also have a major decision play out during the premiere episodes on September 22, as we have to figure out whether or not Cristina is going to have the baby that is inside of her or move forward with her plans for an abortion.
What are you hoping will happen during this season?
