There are sharks in the waters around Cape Cod, Massachusetts. They are great white sharks to be specific, and a shark scientist with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries named Gregory Skomal tagged five of them last year alone with the help of his team.
Gregory Skomal launches Shark Week on the Discovery Channel with Jaws Comes Home on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 10:00pm EST. The Boston Herald reports that Skomal has the distinction of capturing the first great white on film off the coast of Massachusetts in more than three decades.
According to Skomal, Jaws Comes Home “. . . chronicles the work we’re doing off Chatham and shows the research we’ve been conducting on white sharks over the last year. It follows us as we research the resurgence of white sharks off the coast of Cape Cod and the dynamics associated with that.”
Greg Skomal appeared on a recent episode of The Today Show to discuss his work with the sharks and generate excitement for the upcoming Shark Week. He brought along some amazing footage of great white sharks that he shared with the viewers.
