It has become necessary to write a second round up for the week because more has happened! Here is a rundown of what gluten-free information this Examiner has learned about for the week.
Dunwoody Bakery is opening a store in Dunwoody late September at: 2492 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody 30338. They are a dedicated gluten-free and organic bakery that has been in business for the last year.
Gluten Intolerance Group of Atlanta – has a meeting on August 20th from 10-12 at Children’s Heath Care of Atlanta (Scottish Rite) that features a lecture from Dr. Cynthia Rudert. All of the GIG of Atlanta meetings are open to the public and there is no fee to attend.
Madras Chettinaad – in Alpharetta offers authentic Indian cuisine from the Chettinaad region of southern Tamil Nadu, India. They have a number of gluten-free items and can help walk you through the menu. The food is just amazing and different from any Indian food we have had in the past.
Penzeys Spices – just opened a store in Sandy Springs. They sell unique and amazing spices that are gluten free. The staff is very informed on the gluten-free status of their spices, so make sure to ask if you have questions.
Smashburger – just opened in John’s Creek. They do not have a gluten-free menu, but they do have an allergen menu that denotes wheat. What is interesting about the allergen menu is that it has two categories for wheat: contains wheat, and doesn’t contain wheat, but produced on same line or in same facility as wheat. While they don’t have any gluten-free buns, the french fries are listed as being safe (not sweet potato) as are the beef, chicken and hot dogs.
The Melting Pot – all Atlanta-area locations are offering an Endless Lobster menu from August 14 – August 18th for $69 per person. The menu includes UNLIMITED cheese fondue, salad and lobster! The Melting Pot has a gluten-free menu and all staff members are very well versed on the gluten-free diet.
Whole Foods in Sandy Springs is having a Gluten Free Expo on August 20th from 12-4pm. Guests will get to sample gluten-free pizza (cheese free) made on a Namaste pizza crust and using a separate oven, pan and utensils. They will also be sample of gluten-free beer, R.P’s fresh gluten-free pasta, Amande dairy/soy free yogurt, supplements, health and beauty demos and more. Lee Tobin will be on hand demoing product from the Gluten Free Bakehouse and will be leading a store tour.
Williams-Sonoma has launched new gluten-free baking mixes and flour that were developed by Chef Thomas Keller. The Bouchon Gluten-Free Chocolate Chunk Cookie Mix ($19.95), Ad Hoc Gluten-Free Brownie Mix ($18.95) and Cup4Cup Gluten-Free Flour ($19.95) are available in stores and online.
