Glee is getting ready to return to Channel 10 in Tempe this fall for its third season, but there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the series since the end of season two in May. On Thursday, MJ’s Big Blog reported on some of the latest details surrounding this series, a possible spin off, the graduating class, and what Ryan Murphy thinks about the latest comments made by some of the cast.
Earlier this month, work began on season three by Ryan Murphy and the writers of Glee. There was talk of a potential spin-off for at least one of the cast members, but then the announcement was made that three characters, those graduating from McKinley High at the end of season three would not be returning. Those actors are Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, and Cory Monteith. This was the first Colfer had heard of the news, so he took to his Twitter and made some comments in the press.
According to Ryan Murphy, these comments have led him to drop the planned spin off series. Development of the series has stopped. He said the following:
We weren’t allowed to talk about a spin-off. It was too premature. We didn’t want to do it then. The idea was to do it this fall when Glee gets back on the air. Then, to pick up and read the actors saying, “We found out we were fired from Twitter.” All of us, the studio, the network, were like, ‘OK, that isn’t exactly cool,’ because we involved all three of them in that decision. So then what happened is that we decided, ‘OK, let’s not do it.’ So that’s where we are today.
The potential spin off has not been scrapped completely, but it is definitely on the backburner until April, according to Murphy. This wasn’t the only controversy this summer for Glee. Chord Overstreet was also upset by his firing from the series, but he was later asked to return. He declined that offer.
Glee fans are ready to see what happens next. Here are some of the recent comments made on Twitter:
