Whew! Los Angeles is experiencing triple digit temperatures today. If you want to beat the heat, picture yourself on a dramatic 150 foot-high bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, cool breezes blowing through your hair, and the sea below looking so inviting at about 70 degrees.
We’re talking about the perfect place to escape the heat wave, the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel (which is actually located in Dana Point), where your LA Travel Diva Examiner (and Richard) just spent two cool days and nights. Really the temperature in this part of Orange County (just a 2 hour drive from LA) is about 20 degrees lower or more than it is here, which probably sounds pretty good to most of you right now.
But besides the cooler weather, there are other reasons to head to the Ritz. First of all, the rates which are more affordable than ever, especially if you book a package at www.ritzcarlton.com/laguna. Make sure you book a Club Floor room, or at least pay the difference for access. It comes with lounge privileges where snacks and drinks are served daily from morning until 11 PM. Yummy stuff too (see slide show).
You also want to do the spa. It’s a little affair with head to toe treatments, steams and saunas and top notch therapists. We had a couple’s massage that knocked each of us for a luscious loop it was that good. My guy was Michael, Richard had Donna, both know their way around every little ache in your body. The fitness center, across from the spa, has a dramatic setting overlooking the ocean that makes one feel like they’re on a cruise ship when working out.
For sustenance outside the Club Lounge, Raya provides a pretty place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It glams up more at dinner, but allows for casual chic attire. We enjoyed a romantic dinner there beginning with wine, of course, followed by a wild mushroom dish with 7 varieties was really good. We both ordered the halibut one was slightly over cooked, the other perfect. Richard sunk his sweet tooth into the sampler dessert plate which he really savored.
