On August 17, a German citizen was arrested at McCarran International Airport prior to boarding a flight from Vegas to London when US Customs officers became suspicious that the man was a narcotics carrier. Christopher Adiegwu , a German citizen and a native of Nigeria, was transported to a hospital to undergo an X – ray exam which ultimately revealed presence of multiple 1 – inch plastic pellets filled with cocaine in his upper digestive tract. The suspect eliminated approximately 81 of the pellets ( containing 1.2 Kg of cocaine ) following laxative treatment.
The US attorney in Nevada said the man faces a federal drug charge of cocaine possession with intent to distribute. Adiegwu was indicted in US District Court in Las Vegas yesterday. The suspect potentially faces a penalty of up to 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine if convicted.
