New: Follow the Casey Anthony Case on Facebook and on Twitter
On August 15, 2011 it was announced that George and Cindy Anthony, parents to acquitted Florida mother, Casey, will break their silence and appear on the Dr. Phil show to talk about the loss of their granddaughter, relationship with their daughter and the trial where George was accused of sexually abusing Casey and being a witness to her death. The news of their interview comes as many wait to see if Casey Anthony’s attorneys will appeal her probation order and cause a delay in her Florida return which is currently scheduled for August 26, 2011.
George and Cindy Anthony have remained mostly silent since their daughter’s acquittal on charges she murdered and abused her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee; save for several statements released through their attorney Mark Lippman, and a brief, yet emotional statement made at a memorial service for what would have been their granddaughter’s sixth birthday (see videos to the left), on August 9, 2011. The Dr. Phil special will air on September 12, 2011; when the show returns with new programming.
George and Cindy Anthony, along with Dr. Phil, released statements regarding the interview. Dr. Phil McGraw stated, “Throughout this extensive interview, we explore every detail of their ordeal, and they answer every question I know will be on our viewers’ minds. Nothing is off limits during this interview.”
Cindy Anthony stated, “We knew that we’d want to speak at some point, and we figured there was no better place than with Dr. Phil. We are hoping that by doing this interview, we will be able to help other people who may be experiencing struggles of their own. We certainly don’t want anyone to experience what we have these last three years.”
George Anthony said, “We appreciate the way in which Dr. Phil has helped others, and we trust him enough to completely open our hearts in telling our story. He is a professional that understands the uniqueness of our family situation. There’s no one better to do this interview than Dr. Phil. We knew he would ask the difficult questions, and we were right.”
The Anthonys refused to be compensated for their interview and instead asked that a donation be made to the non-profit organization “Caylee’s Fund.”
