A part of daytime television for almost 40 years, Genie Francis (Genevieve, ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ex Laura, ‘General Hospital’) is considered by many as one of the finest among her peers.
Francis stole our hearts as the young and vulnerable ‘Laura’ on ABC’s ‘General Hospital.’ She was half of one of the most popular ‘super couples’ (Luke and Laura) in daytime history. Her recent return to daytime as the somewhat off balance ‘Genevieve’ shows a very different side of the versatile actress.
Currently busy filming ‘The Note 3,’ Francis sat down with ‘The Times Colonist’ to talk some shop.
On being a part of the highest rated episode in soap opera history – the wedding of Luke and Laura in 1981, Francis said,
‘I sometimes get tired of that wedding clip they show — the same one, every time — whenever I walk onto a talk show. That gets tiresome, but on the other hand I’m lucky I was able to be part of something that was that big of a success.’
On her long and successful career, Francis said,
‘I think I’m a survivor. I just want to go on, and I don’t think of myself as a star. I think of myself as an actor who wants to work. I think that’s grounding. You’re a craftsman.’
