The Gwinnett Braves won 4-3 in extra innings Friday night when Diory Hernandez singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning for their second straight win over the Norfolk Tides.
Gwinnett (52-41) increases their lead in the International League South to 1.5 games over the Durham Bulls (50-42), who lost 3-2 to Pawtucket. The Tides (35-58) are now 17 games back in last place in the IL South.
The score was 3-3 entering the bottom of the 11th when the first three batters for the G-Braves reached base bringing Diory Hernandez to the plate with the bases loaded. Hernandez singled up the middle driving Ed Lucas in for the walk-off 4-3 victory.

DH Chris Carter (.286, 14 HRs and 63 RBI) continued to hit the ball well since joining the G-Braves. He went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and now leads the International League in that category. Carter left the game after his second hit with leg soreness.
C Jose Constanza (.317, 1 HR and 21 RBI) was 1-for-4 with a run batted in and was 1-for-2 in stolen base attempts. Constanza is third in the IL in stolen bases. His batting average has dropped from the .340 range and he is now eighth in the IL in hitting.
SS Diory Hernandez (.205, 4 HRs and 19 RBI) was also 1-for-4 and drove in the winning run. He committed his 9th error (throwing) in 43 games. Hernandez is tied for the team league in errors.

RHP Erik Cordier (ND, 3-5, 4.03 ERA) started his tenth game and pitched 6 innings allowing only 1 hit and 1 R/ER. He also had season highs in both walks (5) and strikeouts (8).Cordier hasn’t had a game with that many strikeouts since July of last season while he was with the Mississippi Braves.
LHP Yohan Flande (W, 6-4, 3.70 ERA) made his 11th appearance out of the bullpen and picked up the win with 2 scoreless innings. He walked 1 and struck out 1.
G-Braves pitchers allowed only 1 ER and struck out 11 Tides but issued 10 walks.
Gwinnett and Norfolk play the third of this four game series Saturday at Coolray Field with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
