Gwinnett opened a four game set against the Durham Bulls on the road Tuesday with a 9-3 win. RHP Julio Teheran started for the G-Braves and struck-out 9-of-18 outs he recorded. The victory moves the G-Braves (57-46) to within a game of the Bulls (58-45) in the International League South.
Gwinnett scored three runs in their first at bat and never trailed. The 3-0 lead held until the bottom of the 4th inning when Durham scored one to cut the lead to 3-1. The G-Braves got that run back in the top of the 5th to push the lead back to four. The score remained 4-1 until the7th inning when the G-Braves added three more to go up 7-1. Durham added their second run of the night in the bottom of the inning and the teams went into the 8th with Gwinnett holding a 7-2 lead. Gwinnett scored a pair in their at-bat then Durham closed out the scoring for the night with a single run in the home half of the 8th inning.

RHP Julio Teheran (W 11-2, 1.67 ERA) started and went 6.0 innings to earn his IL leading 11th win allowing 8 hits and 1 run (earned) while striking out 9 and walking 1. Teheran now leads the league in Wins (11) and ERA (1.67) and his nine strikeouts moves him into fourth in the International League in K’s (98).
RHP Arodys Vizcaino (ND, 0-0, 9.00) made his first appearance since being called up from Double-A Mississippi. He pitched one inning and gave up a homerun to the second batter he faced. Vizcaino regrouped and struck-out the next two hitters.
RHP Jaye Chapman (ND, 1-1, 2.35 ERA with 1 Save) came on in the 8th inning and gave up a homerun.
RHP Cory Gearrin (ND, 3-1, 2.78 ERA) closed out the game with a perfect inning of work. He did not allow a hit and rung up a pair of strikeouts.
DH Stefan Gartrell (.271, 22 HRs/ 68 RBI) was 3-for-4 with two doubles (27), scored twice and drove in a pair of runs (68). He is second in the IL in both HR’s and RIB and his .565 SLG is .55 points better than number two.
SS Tyler Pastornicky (.419, 0 HRs/ 3 RBI) had a 2-for-4 day and has now hit safely in 6-of-7 games with Gwinnett. He also scored 2 runs (7) and stole his third base.
1B Mauro Gomez (.287, 18 HRs/ 63 RBI) was 2-for-4 driving in two runs (63) and reached base on a walk. He is third in the league in HRs (18) and tied for fifth in RBI (63) and Gomez has raised his slugging percentage to .506 and is fifth in that category.
3B Brandon Hicks (.269, 14 HRs/ 32 RBI) went 1-for-4 on the day with a double (7) and drove in two runs (32). He also reached base on a walk.
CF Matt Young (.264, 0 HRs/15 RBI) was held hitless in three attempts but worked the pitcher for a set of walks. He came around to score three times.
2B Ruben Gotay (.272, 2 HRs/ 16 RBI) had a multi-hit game going 2-for-5 and knocking in one (16).
RF Wilkin Ramirez (.238, 7 HRs/ 22 RBI) had a double (9) and drove in a run (22) with a 1-for-4 day.

Gwinnett and Durham will play game two of the series Wednesday night at Athletic Park in Durham. LHP Mike Minor (3-4, 3.18 ERA) will be taking the mound for the G-Braves.
