Flying Under the Tea Party Radar 8-27, 2011
We search for Tea Party policy while operating as Hoodooman: A secret identity to protect loved ones from retribution and to keep mobs from showing up at my underground writer’s lair in Yakima Wa.
We’re still on the hunt for specifics in the Tea Party. What exactly, specifically do they want? Googling: Tea Party Mission Statement gets you this…
What is the Tea Party?
Finally, a list of goals and beliefs. This is exciting…
The Tea Party movement is a grassroots movement of millions of like-minded Americans from all backgrounds and political parties. Tea Party members share similar core principles supporting the United States Constitution as the Founders intended, such as:
• Limited federal government
• Individual freedoms
• Personal responsibility
• Free markets
• Returning political power to the states and the people
As a movement, The Tea Party is not a political party nor is looking to form a third political party any time soon. The Tea Party movement, is instead, about reforming all political parties and government so that the core principles of our Founding Fathers become, once again, the foundation upon which America stands. WTF? There’s nothing in the above list that would cause the recent upheaval in international credit markets and a downgrade of the U.S. credit rating for which the Tea Party is being credited/blamed. The list is the same goals always argued even while the constitution was being written. What’s going on?
Yakima Tea Partiers have gained um…let’s call it notoriety for their staunch, passionate and whole hearted endorsements of cutting taxes, deep cuts to government spending, intolerance for illegal immigrants and an abhorrence of all things liberal or progressive, but where are the specifics?
Limited government sounds good. Are they advocating eliminating all taxes except for defense and the three branches of government? Clicking the More button above brings this:
The Mission of TheTeaParty.net
“Our mission is based on the U.S. Constitution’s original principles and not on any political party platform. We must return the United States to the States and the people as spelled out in the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution was written by our founders to limit the powers of the federal government, instead, giving the power to the people and the States.”
Still good, maybe the Tea Party has gotten a bad rap. let’s push on. Clicking the Contract From America button is sure to get us to specifics. Not. Sigh…there’s this explanation:
We are about 80% Finished!
We are upgrading the Contract from America website.
Get all the latest updates on our efforts… Click here.
Unfortunately this page dated 2010 is unfinished. it’s not only not finished, it appears not to hve been begun. If it’s 80% finished we should be able to see some of it. If 80% isn’t possible, how about 70, 60, 50 %? No? Nothing? It’s up to us to guess at why a simple statement of beliefs is unavailable. Here goes mine: I guess they can’t agree on even 10%.
The hell with this site. We’ll move on. Or not move on. The only thing left is the buttons on joining, buying merchandise and etc. There is a button about signing up for a news letter but they may not understand why a secret agent, a journalist/mole wants their newsletter. Even worse, they may understand. They’re a suspicious bunch but here goes…nah…nothing to read just a space for my name and e-mail address. Hah! No way man.
We’ll see if the Yakima Tea Party can write declarative sentences and details too.
Clicking on “Find a Tea Party” brings up a map with the states outlined. Clicking on Washington, then Yakima brings up a list. Yakima is last but also least. No web site but the local Tea Party guy Steve Edwards is listed with a phone number.
We had a brief but pleasant conversation. I didn’t mention my status as a mole, I did explain that I was having trouble finding specific party proposals. Steve seemed to be caught off guard as if the subject had never come up. I wonder if Batman had this much fun. Steve was good enough to suggest “Tea Party Patriots” for a definitive explanation of their positions. This isn’t a local group but at this stage anything within the Milky Way is close enough.
The Tea Party Patriots do have an operative site. I was telling myself not to get too excited, no sense in getting disappointed once again. The site came up on my screen. These guys have sintered the five major themes of the other guys into three:
- Fiscal Responsibility
- Constitutionally Limited Government
- Free Markets
That’s more like it, something we can get our teeth into. let’s see their specifics.
Crap. It’s just philosophy. Vague banalities instead of specifics? Again with the lack of anything concrete? I suppose even Batman had dull moments. You can put yourself to sleep reading philosophy here:
Until next time, same Hoodooman channel, same Hoodooman time. And by the way…secret messages can be passed to me through joltleft.com if you know something useful about the Tea Party. Still waiting for those Chili Verde recipes.
