Freeport, Florida-based Live Oak Landing – an RVC Outdoor Destination Resort in Walton County – announced today that it has partnered with Mark McDuffie – an Air Force veteran and captain of Wounded Warrior Fishing services – to provide resort guests with a professional guided fishing expedition within the Emerald Coast’s Choctawhatchee river system.
“Many people don’t realize this property is in a prime location for fishing. I honestly believe Live Oak Landing offers the best fishing opportunity in Florida, since we sit on waters that connect to rivers, creeks and the Gulf,” said Neil Sorrell, Live Oak Landing General Manager. “Now that we have a fishing guide who knows the area remarkably well, guests can find fishing success in these secluded areas,” he added.
Any guest to Live Oak Landing that is interested in receiving a guided fishing expedition or river tour can schedule an appointment with Mark. Guests don’t need to bring anything except their choice of food and drink; Mark provides all necessary fishing equipment and is a licensed captain. The tour boat can hold up to five people and half or full day tours/expeditions are available.
Live Oak Landing describes this new partnership as an enhanced recreational experience and another benefit of staying at this resort, which happens to also be the only lodging facility in the city of Freeport.
“People will receive the same quality fishing charters as the ones offered in Destin, only they won’t have to pay expensive prices or travel off site,” said Neil. “Plus, this is truly a world-class fishing experience because of our unique geography that is surrounded by thousands of protected and undeveloped natural areas.”
Mark McDuffie – who grew up in the Walton County area – has a deep appreciation for the outdoors, and has been providing fishing and river tours since he was forced to return home after being wounded in Iraq in 2007 – an IED blew off the bottoms of both of McDuffie’s feet. “There’s not a day that goes by where you don’t remember what happened,” says McDuffie on his website. “You still see the images every day. You still feel that loss. It helps you when you get out there. I was having a hard time sleeping. It allowed me to get out and forget about everything else and take in the beauty of what’s around me.”
Mark started Wounded Warrior Fishing for the purpose of providing salvation to other wounded veterans. “For me, water is my therapy and it’s helped me find peace. I don’t provide these services for the purpose of money, it’s my passion,” says Mark.
