On July 25, 2011, former child bride who was forced to marry her cousin in an arranged “spiritual” marriage, Flora Jessop, appeared on HLN and spoke with Jane Velez-Mitchell about Warren Jeffs and life in the FLDS cult. Warren Jeffs is currently on trial in Texas for marrying two child brides and sexually assaulting them. The victims were 12 and 14-years-old at the time of the incidents. Jeffs also faces charges of bigamy as it is believe he had approximately 80 wives in the polygamous cult. Flora Jessop managed to escaped the cult when she was 15-years-old.
Flora Jessop was asked if she believed that justice would finally be served as Jeffs has continued to beat many charges and his last conviction as recently overturned and he will stand trial at a later date on charges of being an accessory to rape.
Speaking to Jane Velez-Mitchell, Jessop stated, “You know, I think Warren Jeffs is going to see justice. What those of us from the inside would like to see is that the women start getting charged because in order to perpetuate this cycle of abuse without these mothers handing their children to these men so that they can rape and abuse them, this cycle would stop.
“And you know, you saw the footage of the mothers begging for their children back. Oh, they took our children, these poor care bear colored mommies in their prairie dresses, and yet they`re a big part of this problem as well.”
Flora Jessop also spoke about sexual molestation that she suffered at the hands of her father as well as knowing Warren Jeffs as a child. Jane Velez-Mitchell asked her, “You came in contact with Warren Jeffs as a child? Tell us about that.”
Jessop answered, “Yes, I know Warren as a child. He was somebody that I liked to stay away from. You know, my dad was sexually molesting me and as a result of that, I didn`t like people touching me. And Warren was a very handsy kind of guy and always wanted to put his hands all over you, so I just tended to distance myself from him anytime he was around. It`s not only him, but there were many other men in the community who did the same thing.
