With summer winding down, many families are looking to throw the last party of the season to celebrate and say goodbye to another wonderful summer. However, when designing the menu for such a goodbye party, seafood dishes are almost always on the list. And why wouldn’t they be? Everyone loves seafood dips and finger food!! However, with seafood being such a sensitive ingredient, where to purchase the ingredient can be crucial. And with all the grocery stores available to the average family, at times it can seem like sorting through a haystack. So, I have compiled a list of the best common grocery stores available to the average family. I have left out local stores, not all are blessed to live near a coast; however, that does not mean that they should be unable to purchase amazing seafood.
The stores are rated from 1 to 5 Stars (the more stars, the better) and the reason for these ratings are provided.
Publix : 5 stars Seafood is always fresh with decent prices. Publix also puts considerable effort into ensuring that their seafood is taken care of after entering the store.
Bilo: 4 stars Seafood is normally fresh. Store doesn’t take as good of care of their seafood as Publix and the seafood selection tends to be slim pickings. Seafood tends to appear to be an afterthought with Bilo. However, the prices are always excellent; something is always on sale.
Ingles: 3 stars Seafood selection is very small, tends to only be a few products with prices that are just okay. However, the care and freshness is always excellent.
Piggly Wiggly: 2.5 stars Seafood is primarily frozen. Some stores have fresh lobster, but most only have small selections of fresh seafood. Prices are fair, but quality is just okay.
Food Lion: 2.5 Stars Comparable to the analysis of Piggly Wiggly. Decent deals on seafood, can find good prices if you watch and wait for the sales. However, stores tend to have small selections and mediocre freshness.
Walmart/ Sam’s: 2 stars Stores tend to cater to seafood; it always has its own section dedicated to a fair selection of seafood. However, the prices are always mediocre and the freshness (with except to the fresh lobster) tends to be mediocre.
This list is just a start, I will continue to update as more info becomes available. If you have a store that you would like me to add, just comment! For those who are not blessed to have a nearby specialty seafood market, I hope to help you the best options for purchasing quality seafood for your family.
