Since opening in 2008, The National Harbor in Prince George’s County, MD has solidified a reputation for being one of the premier locations for outdoor fun in the DC area. Events such as The Uncle Sam Jam, The National Harbor Wine & Food Festival, The Sounds of Summer Concert Series and “host home” to Cirque du Soliel – have made the Harbor a definite “go-to” destination location for fun and entertainment in the DC area in just 3 short years.
Now the Harbor has added another option specifically for families looking for outdoor summer fun – The Family Fest 2011. A great compliment to Movies on the Potomac – Family Movie Sunday and CycleFest 2011, Family Fest 2011 will kick off it’s first event on Saturday, August 6th, and will be held every Saturday until September 10th ; directly across from the Gaylord Hotel (200 Waterfront Street). The Family Fest 2011 will be a day of fun for families to enjoy activities, live entertainment, food vendors and more.
Designed to attract families first, Family Fest 2011 has an array of activities that the entire family can enjoy including Rock Climbing Walls, an Obstacle Course, and Live Entertainment throughout the day on the “Family Fest Harbor Star Stage”, which will feature performances from local choirs and dance groups; award-winning recording artists including Raheem DeVaughn and Phillip Carter; DC’s own DJ Kool, bands, magicians and more.
“Family Fest was created because we know that there is a critical need for family-oriented outdoor events especially during the summer and this is a family event for all ages to enjoy”, says event producer Vincent Richardson of the Visions Group. “The grounds of the National Harbor are the perfect location and we are thrilled that we have the opportunity to see our vision become a reality.”
“With the support of the community and our commitment to create an entertaining and powerful event, Family Fest 2011 promises to become an annual attraction,” comments Keith Payne Jr, Family Fest producer and President of the Visions Group, “It will be the perfect place to spend a Saturday with your family, ” says Payne. “The goal of Family Fest 2011 is to build a strong foundation so that the festival event will continue to grow and prosper. We are also excited that W&T Transportation will be joining the Family Fest 2011 family as a presenting sponsor and partner this summer.”
The 2011 Family Fest will open at 1 p.m. and close at 7:30 pm. The cost of admission is $ 10.—, or for $ 15.— you can purchase “an all day pass” (allowing you to leave and return). Children 2 years old & under are admitted for free and the event producers encourage evening attendees to stay for the weekly Saturday night fireworks at the National Harbor.
