It’s the time of the year when we see start seeing beautiful fall colors on trees and children heading back to school. Yes, it’s September! During this month organizations like the Ace Mentor of Newark, NJ, YMCA, Essex County of Casa and the Northern New Jersey Business Volunteer Council have their calendars marked for personal development, fundraising, mentoring events and programs. The events and programs are outlined below:
Ace Mentor of NJ, (ACE is an acronym for architecture, construction, and engineering) aims to “engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in the integrated construction industry through mentoring; and to support their continued advancement in the industry through scholarships and grants”. They are collaborating on a Golf outing fundraiser with DFI’s Educational Trust to raise monies for their scholarship funds. Funds will benefit the future of the foundation industry and the construction industry in general through high school and college scholarships plus benefit other educational opportunities for students interested in the field. The New Jersey Golf Outing event is scheduled for September 12, 2011at the Forsgate Country Club, Monroe Township, NJ. The Y is a cause-driven organization and one of the nation’s leading nonprofits, “committed to strengthening communities in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility”. Essex County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is an independent, court-authorized nonprofit organization that “ works through specially trained and supervised volunteers to promote the welfare of children in Essex County, New Jersey who have been removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect or abandonment CASA volunteers speak up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court”. The program for volunteer training starts September 7th, 2011. All classes are held at the Essex County CASA, Wilentz Court Complex, 212 Washington Street, Room 912, and Newark, NJ. The Volunteer Center of Bergen County was founded in 1966 by the Junior League of Bergen County and a group of concerned community representatives. “They saw the need for a clearinghouse matching prospective volunteers with agencies that needed their help.” One of the events hosted by this agency on September 21, 2011 is: MentoringYouth.
