A concern is am I too young for the physical level of the P90X program? The first answer is always check with your child’s doctor first. Then if given the okay, someone who knows the program well should be there to guide you. All forms of workouts can be abridged to fit the student’s age and ability. Borrow a CD from a neighbor or friend, with their support, go through the CD to assess your ability.
The weight lifting/strength training portion of the program should be carefully monitored for teenagers. Keep the weights light. The main reason is that their muscles and bones are not fully developed, and they have growth plates at the end of most bones. The fragility of all of these previously mentioned areas is a warning to doing too much strenuous exercise at a young age.
Some important pointers when doing P90X or any exercise program:
1. Make sure you have a spotter. Someone who knows what they are doing and knows the proper technique to spot safely and effectively.
2. Stay focused during your workouts. Technique is extremely important, not only for maximizing rewards but also to avoid injury.
P90X is a great alternative for people in sports. P90X works on all aspects of strength, flexibility, balance, core strength, and quickness. The program is a complete cross training program with weight lifting, karate, yoga, plyometrics and cardio.
