Back in May, at the Tail Waggers Strut hosted by The Crossings Animal Sanctuary (CAS), a lucky pit bull named Meat Loaf was saved by the good people at Harley’s Haven Dog Rescue. Be sure to check out the pictures of this gorgeous dog in the slideshow (left)!
A policeman had taken Meat Loaf to the Strut and asked if this dog belonged to any of the attendees or rescue organizations at the event. Unfortunately, his owners were nowhere to be found, so a decision had to be made regarding Meat Loaf’s fate. Fortunately, Beth Mehaffey, a Harley’s Haven founder, agreed to open their doors to Meat Loaf and his life was saved.
Since then, Meat Loaf has been neutered and Mehaffey and co-founder Jen Heller have been spending lots of time trying to find his owners. After all efforts were exhausted, they began trying to find a forever home for the beautiful dog.
Unfortunately, Meat Loaf began to display some behavior challenges and food aggression, and now needs some serious training before he can be adopted. To relieve Harley’s Haven of the increasing resources being utilized for Harley, CAS has taken responsibility for Meat Loaf and is paying for him to reside at a kennel in Lansdale until they find the proper placement for him.
CAS is now asking for your help. They believe that his special behavior needs should not hinder his chances of being adopted one day, or his chances of staying alive. If any trainers are available that have experience working with strong, under-socialized pit bull mixes, or if there is a rescue organization willing to take on Meat Loaf’s special case, please contact The Crossings Animal Sanctuary at 215-321-4673, on their Facebook page, or via email at email@example.com.
“This is what it means to be truly no-kill — to rise to the occasion, even when it is difficult,” said CAS President Yvonne Neiman. “Please help us find Meat Loaf the home he deserves.”
