East Providence, Rhode Island – The skinny, white toy-breed dog pushed his way out of the cardboard box he was left in on the Fourth of July. While others celebrated, the neglected pooch with the bleeding sores on his front legs, the overgrown nails curling into the pads of his paws, and visibly neglected and hungry waited outside of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for his owners to return.
A concerned citizen who had been checking on the hours of operation for the facility saw the empty cardboard box and the suffering little canine lying next to it, and called the East Providence Police Department. Someone had just dropped the dog off at the shelter located on 186 Amaral Street and didn’t care that the facility was closed for the holiday.
And the dog with his spine sticking out because of starvation with the sad little face was transported to the Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services and has been reported to be doing well this morning.
Investigators did find an address on the outside of the box and are following up on the lead.
