Lake Erie provides a prime fishing ground for sports fishing enthusiasts in Cleveland and in other lakeshore communities in northern Ohio and now you can celebrate the fish that make it possible at the annual Lake County PerchFest (TM), Ohio’s largest perch fish fry/ festival being held in Fairport Harbor, Ohio on Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11. Fairport Harbor is located 40 minutes east of Cleveland.
Lake County PerchFest Taking place at the Lake Metroparks Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park ( a 25 acre Lake Erie beach park), the family- friendly, three-day PerchFest will feature a Lake Erie perch fishing tournament with the winner receiving $500 and a $75 gift certificate from Marc’s.
The main food attraction is Lake Erie Yellow Perch fish fry meals. It is estimated that PerchFest will sell 2200 pounds of fish and 9000 meals in a 30 hour period. Special Note: All perch is egg-battered, breaded in cornmeal and fried in canola oil. All dinners are served with cole slaw, fries and a roll & butter. Both the Perch Dinner and the Walleye Dinner are $12.
Other popular food items for purchase include Walleye Fish Fries, Shrimp dinners, steamed clams (a dozen for $8), clam chowder, lobster bisque and corn-on-the-cob. Additional items include pasta, hot dogs, pizza, sausage, elephant ears and baked goods.
The PerchFest also features a Lake County Idol singing contest with a $500 first prize. Other activities include a sidwalk chalk coloring contest, the Great Brad Magic Show, a bike show, juggling, puppets, a Karate and Fitness demonstration, a classic car show and Outback Ray’s Animal Show.
There will also be free, live entertainment throughout the festival.
Another Special Note: The Lake County PerchFest (TM) was featured in a 6 minute segment on the Travel Channel’s national program, “Taste of America.”
Visitors will also get the opportunity to take a tour of the nearby Fairport Marine Museum/ Lighthouse which will also be hosting its 3rd annual Lighthouse Art Festival. Admission to the Museum is $3 for adults and $2 for youth.
Hours for the PerchFest are 4 p.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday, noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon – 8 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is $5.
