Insidious is a film that takes an unorthodox perspective on the often told stories of haunting and possession. The film tells a tale of one family’s struggle against the supernatural forces of evil. It is very reminiscent of classic horror stories that were built on increasing uneasiness and stress instead of the blood, guts, and gore of many modern horror films.
This scarefest uses a number of classic horror elements such including séances, possession, ghosts, and other scare factors to attempt to place the audiences into a state of fear. The film implements a modern approach to each in order to grab hold of the audience. The use of technology in each of the uses of the various well known scare tactics make this a film that a more modern audience will appreciate and relate to.
The film takes a while to warm up because there aren’t true chills in the first twenty minutes or so, however, soon after the first few minutes the film becomes an engrossing narrative of fear and quickly becomes a good story of the supernatural. The chills materialize and become real. Insidious creates a great deal of tension as well as anxiety through the use of a number of delicate insinuations are induced to try to create a sense of horror. Each helps to raise the tension and anxiety of the audience.
This tale of fear has a some very distinct themes interwoven into its terrifically horrific nature. The movie is really about the strength of family and love as well as confronting ones inner demons.
Insidious is a terrific horror story that will easily entertain any fan of the genre. The film has a great old school feel to it that many modern films have lost. The film has very little detractors although A cliché ending that reduces the enjoyment of the film. It is easily one of the better horror films to come out in some time.
