On Sunday, July 31, 2011, health enthusiasts, families, photographers, and hot air balloon fans have a unique opportunity at the 29th annual Quick Check New Jersey Festival of Ballooning. Weather and wind conditions permitting, a sunrise yoga session begins at 6:30 AM on the main runway at Solberg Airport. The serenity of dawn yoga will be combined with that morning’s scheduled, hot air balloons inflation and mass ascension. Against a dramatic backdrop of 100 balloons ascending into the dawn sky, Carolyn Geiger of Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center will lead a dawn yoga session.
From 9 AM to 10:30 AM, following the dawn opening of the Sunday, July 31, Health and Wellness Day of the New Jersey Festival of Ballooning, Zumba will take the main concert stage. Licensed Zumba instructor Denise Tweedie will be joined by DeeJay Francis. Together with active Zumba enthusiasts, a party environment will be created for a Zumbathon that benefits the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Somerset Medical Center.
From 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the balloon festival’s Family Fun Pavilion, jazzercise will makes its festival debut. Certified instructor Karen Faulkner of Jazzercise Chester Da Barn Recreation Center leads the Health and Wellness Sunday’s fusion of jazz, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing event.
Running with the Balloon 5K
A Sunday highlight will be 2500 runners participating in the 2nd Annual Trinitas Regional Medical Center’s Running with the Balloons 5K. The running event starts at 8 AM.
As part of the exciting start to the 5K, a human cannonball will be the starter’s gun. The Cannonball Lady, Jennifer Schneider, will be fired from her 27-foot cannon to start the racing event.
The 5K runners take a course that leads them right past the balloon launch area to a finish in the heart of the festival. 5K registration includes admission to the festival as well as lawn seating to the Meat Loaf concert. The top finishers, male and female, each win a free ride in a hot air balloon.
Advance ticket purchases to the 29th Annual Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooningdo provide a discount. From July 2 to July 28 at midnight, 33% off tickets priced at $20 are available. One day, adult general admission tickets purchased on July 29, 30, and 31st, the dates of the Balloon Festival, are the full $30 price. Children under 3 can attend the balloon festival for free. Children’s tickets for ages 4 to 12 are $10 until July 28th and $15 at the festival.
Festival tickets are available by calling 1-800-HOT-AIR9 or through links provided on the Balloon Festival’s web site, where tickets can be printed on a home computer or mailed to the purchaser. Additionally, tickets can be purchased at any Quick Chek store location. While supplies last, Quick Chek stores are offering a $20 coupon booklet with the purchase of two tickets.
The 29th Annual Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning is held at Solberg Airport at 39 Thor Solberg Road in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. Solberg Airport’s convenient, Hunterdon County location is only 28 miles from Trenton and centrally located 42 miles from New York City and 54 miles from Philadelphia. Specific directions and a festival map are available. Onsite parking will be offered for $5 at Solberg Airport. Additionally, from noon on Saturday and Sunday, the festival runs a free shuttle bus from nearby Raritan Valley Community College located at 118 Lamington Road, Branchburg, NJ.
