Dr. Oetker Ristorante Pizza Mozzarella is a mouthful. A Dr. selling pizza? It sounds odd, true. It is a weird name. Yet, we had seen Dr. Oetker’s brand over time in our local Stop & Shop and decided to give it a whirl.
It was not just the name that threw us off. It was the fork holding the slice of pizza. Typically, Long Islander’s don’t eat pizza with a fork. O.K. we forgive. Dr. Oetker’s is a German brand similar to our “Betty Crocker”. It is a family run company with products being sold beginning as early as 1891. The pizza’s are produced here in the United States for our consumption.
So what’s so different about this pizza?
Straight from the box, this pizza looks different. There are tiny chunks of fresh tomato, dabs of basil and extra virgin olive oil and plenty of sliced cheese..what looks like fresh mozzarella. Thankfully, this is not DiGiorno! Dr. Oetker’s crust was super thin and the pie was a generous 8″. We were excited to get it in our oven.
Once we cooked the pie to the specifications on the box (425′ for 10-12 minutes), we came away with a crunchy, yet fairly moist crust with just the right amount of melted cheese that for once on a frozen product tasted delicious. We loved the addition of the basil and the olive oil which when cooked blended into the bright, tangy tomato sauce sitting just below the cheese.
Dr. Oetker’s pizza tasted almost as fresh as if we had ordered it from our local wood-burning pizzeria. No joke. This pizza is a contender.
Are there any other varieties?
