Christee Thoman, was managing the “Mirth Café” in downtown Lawrence, KS, when the space next door opened up. “I am very curious so I asked to look inside. I fell in love with the potential,” she said about the space. From that moment on, Spirit has guided the way, it was “divine intervention,“ according to Christee.
Christee’s beloved, Adam, is a massage, energy, and vibrational medicine man and Christee is a soul retriever and past life regressionist who hosts large group meditations. Together they intended to provide a space that would allow various healers a space in the community to share healing, meditations, yoga, and more. Spirit stepped in and told them to “Jump,” according to Christee.
“I’ve always been drawn to helping the community and boosting others. I walked into our local food pantry and free clothing place, Penn House, and noticed a sign that read, ‘Sorry we are out of food.’ I then watched an elderly woman turn and walk out looking defeated. I promptly asked if I could use our opening to help.” Christee stated.
“I knew what I was supposed to do, help others; I didn’t know how to do it at first as I had four days to plan. Somehow phone calls started flowing in asking how to help,” Christee said happily. “The Universe certainly moves fast when you are listening and following the flow.”
On Monday, “Holding Space” will host their grand opening. This small fair-like event will offer local area entertainment and a list of free lectures, group meditations, holistic treatments, and more throughout the day. They are requesting that you bring a healthy non-perishable food item to donate to the Penn House of Lawrence food pantry. These donations will be distributed within the Lawrence community.
“Economically times are hard; we don’t want to ‘charge’ for people showing up. They will be coming to learn about events, how they can get treatments at a sliding scale, and to have fun, I can’t possibly charge for that,” says Christee.
Vendors, healers, crafters, and readers from Lawrence and surrounding areas will be offering their services and products. Prices at the individual booths will vary depending on the services and products they offer.
Christee stated, “I feel like the only reason the Universe is being so giving is because we are not halting the flow with the money. Most everyone is just coming together knowing it’s for the community! I am hoping out of all of this the community and the surrounding areas will see that we are trying to be the change that we wish to see, UNITY.”
