Singing sensations come in all sizes and shapes. From Susan Boyle to Jackie Evancho, the human voice continues to inspire us…or, sometimes, merely entertain. In recent years, as audiences continue to tune into shows that focus on musical talent, the spotlight on singers has intensified.
New shows, mean new recording stars, and with the finalists of Disney’s musical talent showcase “N.B.T.” having just been publicly announced, several more singing hopefuls are counting on fans to see them through.
Talent competing in the upcoming season of “N.B.T.” (“Next Big Thing“) includes:
- Tay Barton, age 15, a country singer from Laguna Beach, California
- Zack Montana, age 13, a pop singer from Los Angeles, California
- Shealeigh, age 13, a pop singer from Chicago
- Ladina Spence, age 16, a pop singer originally from Germany, now living in Los Angeles, California
- Hollywood Ending, a pop/rock band including Chris Bourne, Cameron Byrd, Dan Geraghty, Mike Montalbano and Tyler Wilson. The guys, aged 16 thru 18, hail from the east coast, as well as the United Kingdom.
And whereas most people will have to wait until October 14, when season four of “N.B.T.” kicks-off, in order to hear and see these talented finalists, Angelenos can get an early glimpse of the talent (minus Shealeigh) at a free live concert, being held on Thursday, July 28, at the Americana At Brand, in Glendale.
The Radio Disney sponsored event begins at 5:00 p.m., with a half-hour of Radio Disney Road Crew activities, during which audience members can participate in various contests and win prizes. Then from 5:30-6:30 p.m., the “N.B.T.” artists perform onstage. Following the performances, at 6:30 p.m., a special “Meet-and-Greet” with the artists will be held, until approximately 7:00 p.m.
The premise of “N.B.T.” is a novel one. Not only are the unsigned artists who become finalists promoted on the Disney Channel, they are also spotlighted in Internet ads and given airtime on Radio Disney. In addition, to the artists’ videos, photos, bios and other promotional material available for viewing by fans on the Internet, each artist will have a single on the Radio Disney playlist and collaborate with on-air personalities Ernie D and Jake Whetter through in-studio interviews and performances.
Over the course of the ten-week programming, at the end of each round, the artists will face elimination based on listener votes. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite performers on the Internet at RadioDisney.com and/or at Facebook.com/RadioDisney, or by texting.
The winner will be announced in December and will subsequently have a single released by Disney Music Group.
Some of the previous contestants, who have gone on to become “N.B.T.” winners, include the band Allstar Weekend and singer Coco Jones.
Undoubtedly, the suspense and excitement, for fans and contestants alike, will continue to build, during the next several months, as everyone awaits the answer to the question: “Who will be the “Next Big Thing?”
(The “N.B.T.” concert will be performed at The Americana at Brand (Specific Location: On The Green, next to the fountains) located at 889 Brand Blvd. (near Colorado Street), Glendale, CA 91210. Phone number: (818) 637-8982.)
