Detroit, Michigan – A seven-month-old pitbull puppy was beaten with brass knuckles and had her ear cut off after escaping from her own yard on Thursday and attacking a neighbor’s pet rooster on Ewer Street. The neighbor has been arrested for assault and animal cruelty and is currently in police custody.
According to eyewitnesses, the neighbor was so angry at the puppy, that she allegedly decided to dispense her own version of justice and chased the dog down the street.
Neighborhood children saw the the neighbor running with a butcher knife chasing the young white pitbull named Vera. When she caught up with the dog, the woman, according to the children hit the dog with the brass knuckles and used the butcher knife to lacerate the dog’s scalp and then cut the dog’s ear off throwing the dog’s ear on the ground. One of the teenagers who witnessed the gruesome scene retrieved the ear and placed it in a plastic bag.
Upon the arrival of the dog’s owner, Caroline who faced off the neighbor about cutting Vera’s ear off while her dog, in excruciating pain whimpered, the neighbor allegedly spit in Caroline’s face and punched and kicked her.
At this time, Caroline has only been able to afford to stabilize Vera, however the puppy will need approximately $5000 in corrective surgery and skin graphs. Veterinarians were unable to reattach Vera’s ear.
