On September 25, 2011, while the Detroit Tigers play the Baltimore Orioles at Comerica Park, you can sit in a special section and join fellow needle crafters for the 5th annual Stitch N’ Pitch event.
What is Stitch N’ Pitch you ask? The answer is not simple. Stitch N’ Pitch brings together needle art crafters and baseball lovers to enjoy an American tradition-baseball. But that is not the only function of this event. The baseball/needle crafters bring warm, machine washable hats to donate to the Michigan Veterans Foundation. Knitters and crocheters are very giving of their talents and time to help others in need. In addition, Stitch N’ Pitch helps to raise funds for the Needle Arts Mentoring Program.
STITCH N’ PITCH brings together two wonderful traditions — Baseball and the NeedleArts. Come to a ball game and knit, crochet, embroider, cross-stitch and needlepoint. Sit among friends, family and colleagues and cheer on your favorite Baseball Team. Beginners, intermediate and experts are all welcome.
Stitch N’ Pitchis partnering with the Needle Arts Mentoring Program to raise funds and awareness for this important program, that mentors children in the needlearts. NAMP, a project of the not-for-profit, Helping Hands Foundation Inc., is supported by The National NeedleArts Association (TNNA). As of February 2008, over 160 programs can be found throughout 30 states with volunteers touching the lives of over 4000 children. Anyone with needlearts experience can start a program and volunteers are given free start-up supplies and teaching materials for their classes.
On June 5, 2010 Stitch N’ Pitch set a new Guinness World Record for “Most People Crocheting Simultaneously” at Mets Citi-Field with 426 crocheters – Read NY Daily News article.
To order tickets you will need to obtain this form. This form is not available at Comerica Park box office or ticket retailers, but is available at local yarn shops. Orders must be received by Aug. 25.
