The 7th annual Tennis Marathon for Breast Cancer will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Millennium Harvest House in Boulder, Colorado. The deadline to put together a team for the event is August 16, 2011.
Nicole Kenneally, CU Women’s Tennis Head Coach, is again organizing this fun event. Nicole started the Tennis Marathon to give back to the community, and she certainly has. When this year’s event is over, more than $100,000 will have been raised for cancer support. The event is held the weekend before CU fall semester starts, which enables the tennis team members to help Nicole with the event.
The 2011 Tennis Marathon is sponsored by Etkin Johnson and will benefit the BCH-Tebo Family Medical Pavilion. Other sponsors include Millennium Harvest House, which hosts the event, and the Contrino Group. The event includes a silent auction with many exciting prizes donated by area businesses. Past years’ auction items have included tennis equipment, tennis clothes, a trip to Las Vegas for Andre Agassi’s gala fundraiser, Rockies tickets, CU football tickets, restaurant gift certificates, and much more.
How does the event work? The Tennis Marathon is a fun, social day and evening, including tennis, dinner, a t-shirt, and a goodie bag. Each team consists of up to 18 players. Two team members play doubles together against other teams each hour from 8 am through 5 pm (9 rotations). To register, each team pays an entry fee of $550. Teams with fewer team members pay more per person, but can play more than one rotation. Men and women of all levels are welcome. Once teams are signed up, teams of similar ability levels are paired to play each other. Four courts are set up for drills with Harvest House pros for any interested participants from 10 am – 3 pm. A celebrity tennis match takes place from 5 – 6 pm. The last match is followed by a free dinner donated by local restaurants, and the close of the silent auction wraps things up.
Registration forms can be picked up and dropped off at Rocky Mountain Racquet Specialists, 2425 Canyon Boulevard, Suite C, Boulder, Colorado. Contact Nicole Kenneally with any questions at 303-998-1273 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
