DARPA’s (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s) TTO (Tactical Technology Office) pursues and deploys high-risk, high-payoff, tactical technologies to transform the Warfighter’s future. Combat capability is enhanced through advanced weaponry, platforms and space systems. For the Washingtonian, direct access to DARPA’s Headquarters located in Arlington Virginia, provides the benefits of home court advantage when pursuiing tenders and | or procurement opportunities.
Of DARPA’s six functional areas, the TTO creates an “order of magniture” military capability amidst rapidly changing technololgy schemes where technological research features strategic advantages. TTO develops systems and facilitates game changing” tactics, techniques and procedures relative to armed conflict through operational redefinition of politico-militarism, asymmetric threat analysis and counter-measures, space induction activities, force logistics, seamless Joint Operations, global surveillance and WMD (weapons of mass destruction) detection and negation. While maintaining this weighty calling, the TTO has included a little science fiction through the induction of the TX (Transformer Program).
TX meets Warfighter transportation requirements in theatre through a combination of the HMMWV (Highly Mobile Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle) and helicopter. TX counters traditional and asymmetrical threats while avoiding road obstructions and providing enhanced mobility. TX alleviates terrain issues while keeping location unpredictable and uneasy for enemy tracking. Operations, fire-team insertion and extraction, medical evacuations, etc. are enhanced increasing survivability percentiles while improving overall mission capability.
TX guidance, navigation and control is suitable for military scouting, personnel transport and logistics. Vertical take-offs and landings deliver these road-worthy vehicles with a 4-person payload on one tank of fuel. They include hybrid electric drives, fan propulsion systems, ring moters, energy storage, body morphing abilities, and advanced flight controls and management systems.
Yes. . . the flying car has arrived – no longer science fiction – now science fact.
