The time for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is almost here as July 15, 2011 will mark the end of the franchise that has been so important to Potterheads for so long. Star Daniel Radcliffe though has come forth and let it be known that he was struggling with something much more difficult than filming one of the greatest franchises ever and that is a fight with alcohol.
Radcliffe revealed that there were times he was so worried about his drinking that he has now vowed to give it up completely and become teetotal.
In an interview with GQ Magazine, Radcliffe said that at times when he turned 18, his life actually went off the rails while filming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The young star is now 21.
“I became so reliant on (alcohol) to enjoy stuff,” he said in an interview to be published in GQ’s August edition. “There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me.”
One of the things that Radcliffe feels very fortunate the paparazzi never ended up being around when he was at his worst.
“I really got away with that because there were many instances when a shot like that could have been taken,” he added.
While wishing that he could be one of those that goes to parties, has a couple drinks, and just enjoys himself but he said that doesn’t work for him. Radcliffe has been clean of alcohol ever since August of 2010.
“I do that very unsuccessfully. I’d just rather sit at home and read, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh,” he added. “There’s no shame in enjoying the quiet life.”
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two will hit theatres in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 15. It stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Robbie Coltrane, Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Felton, David Thewlis, Alan Rickman, Jason Isaacs, Michael Gambon, and many more.
Those in the New Orleans area will be able to find showtimes and call for tickets here as soon as the battle between good and evil is ready to commence and it all ends. For those that don’t win though, New Orleans Potterheads will be able to catch the film at any theatre in July including The Palace, Hollywood Cinema, or Canal Place.
