‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2011: Season 13 cast revealed — ABC plans to announce the cast of amateur dancers for Season 13 of Dancing with the Stars on Monday night. The announcement will take place during the network’s broadcast of Bachelor Pad. Rumors of leaked cast lists circulated the Internet on Monday with news that the professionals on the show are getting prepared for the new season that will begin in just a few weeks.
UPDATE: Here is the official cast list as announced Monday night at approximately 9:25 p.m. Eastern time on ABC: As rumored: Ricki Lake; Ron Artest; Kristin Cavallari; Chynna Phillips; and David Arquette are in the cast; but also on the list is Carson Kressley, a surprise. At 9:45 p.m. ET, ABC announced the remainder of the cast, which followed along with the rumors: Nancy Grace; J. R. Martinez; Hope Solo; Rob Kardashian; Elisabetta Canalis; and Chaz Bono.
According to ABC, Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke will be back co-hosting, and Season 13 will see the return of judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli as well. Perhaps the return most anticipated by long-time viewers of the show will be professional cast member, pro dancer and choreographer, Derek Hough. Mr. Hough, who has led his partners to three championships so far in the show’s history, was not part of Season 12 last spring because he took a break from the program to make a film.
Leading the list of rumored cast members in terms of the amateur dancers are former prosecutor and HLN show host, Nancy Grace and the daughter turned son of Sonny Bono and Cher, Chaz Bono (formerly known as Chastity Bono). Monday night will confirm or refute those names, along with other possibilities floating about the web on Monday that included: Ron Artest, Ricki Lake, Rob Kardashian, Kristin Cavallari, Chynna Phillips, Hope Solo, Elisabetta Canalis, David Arquette, Ryan O’Neal, and J.R. Martinez.
As mentioned earlier, the official announcement of the amateur cast will be made Monday sometime during the show, Bachelor Pad. The show runs for two hours beginning at 8 p.m. ET, and, of course, ABC is not saying when during that time Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke will host the announcements. The network likely hopes that viewers who have never watched Bachelor Pad, nor will again, will tune in to the show (or record it) Monday night just to hear the announcement related to the more popular dancing program.
DWTS has been criticized in the past for not having what many people would call “stars” as the amateurs learning to perform the different ballroom and Latin dance styles each week. Instead, many viewers have the opinion that the “stars” are people who were once popular public figures in various fields but have since lost their luster and seek to regain it. Besides the entertainment world, the show reaches out to the worlds of sports, business, politics, and other arenas to find cast members who may create interest and buzz for the program or who already have a base of supporters who will tune in and vote.
While speculation and rumors continue before the announcement, last weekend the professional dancers from DWTS re-grouped at a beach house on Malibu, a get together apparently held to catch up before their partners are announced and the grueling rehearsal and show schedule begins.
According to ABC, Season 13 of Dancing with the Stars will premiere on September 19, 2011, and its first results show will air on September 20th.
