Quickly following the news that the Baltimore Ravens will eliminate some of their veteran talent, the Dallas Cowboys followed suit. At least two Dallas Cowboys players that fantasy football owners may have relied on over the last few seasons will find themselves cut now that the NFL lockout has ended.
First up is former starting running back Marion Barber. With the bruising Barber headed out the door, it looks like the Cowboys will put more emphasis either on Tashard Choice to handle the bruising runs or will start to implement rookie DeMarco Murray into the lineup.
Barber only ran for 374 yards in 2010 with four touchdowns so it was obvious he was headed out the door. There will be a team that takes the chance on him. He still has a couple of good years left in his 28-year old body and will provide someone a decent goal-line back.
Next up is the biggest trade flop for Dallas in recent memory. Roy Williams, the former Texas Longhorns standout, came to the Dallas Cowboys with tons of promise but never did anything for the team once he arrived. He has talent but can’t seem to get on the right page with his quarterbacks.
Dropping Barber and Williams will save the Dallas Cowboys almost $10 million, which explains why Jerry Jones said they can afford to sign any free agent this month that they want to.
Also on the Dallas Cowboys chopping block are non-fantasy impact players Marc Colombo (OL), Leonard Davis (OL) and Kris Brown (K).
