Kevin Harvick Inc. announced on Tuesday that Chris Carrier is the new crew chief on the organization’s No. 33 NASCAR Nationwide Series team, effective immediately. He replaces David Hyder in the position.
Carrier has been serving as crew chief for KHI in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for the No. 8 team — the team with Nelson Piquet Jr. as its driver. With both the Camping World Truck and Nationwide series racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend, Carrier will serve as crew chief for both teams — on Friday night in the Truck Series race and on Saturday night in the Nationwide Series event. A permanent crew chief for the No. 8 truck team has not yet been named.
A handful of drivers — including team owner Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Paul Menard, Max Papis, Austin Dillon and Scott Speed — have taken turns behind the wheel of the No. 33 this year. The car has a total of 10 top-fives and 17 top-10s this year through 25 races and is fourth in Nationwide Series owner points.
