The only thing better than a Happy Hour visit to Border Grill in Santa Monica would be if we could replicate that experience a la playa de Mexico! Chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, better known as “Two Hot Tamales”, have been in business at this location for over 25 years. Now that we have given Border Grill a try, we most assuredly know why!
Extremely popular for its creative, bold food this Happy Hour’s guaranteed to put you in a great mood. Their drinks pack a punch, we loved them a bunch. We are always searching for great deals and this zingy Happy Hour costs poquito dinero!
The drinks we sampled included Border Grill’s Blended Strawberry Margarita (our fav!), House Margarita, Sangria and Bacardi Mojito. Robbie Tubb, barman excepcional told us, “The secret to the success of our margaritas is our homemade sweet & sour mix which is made fresh daily”.
Paired with these great cocktails we sampled Border Grill’s fresh chips and salsa, Carnitas, Grilled Fish and Carne Asada Tacos, a Peruvian Ceviche shot, a Poblano Quesadilla, and Beef Brisquit Taquitos. Every bite was better than the last; the service was exceptional and fast. We felt like we were in abuelita’s casa right down to the tortillas made from stone ground masa.
The atmosphere here is like a fiesta, the last thing you want to do is take a siesta. Regulars rendezvous here for Happy Hour close to four, soon after that there may be a line out the door. The murals on the walls are colorful and bright, they make the bar an impressive site. Hoorah! Hooray! Ole! What a perfect way to end the day!
