When the New Orleans Saints sign free agent running back Darren Sproles to a contract on Thursday, many expected that to be the end of Courtney Roby‘s tenure in the Big Easy. Sproles has been a great return man in the NFL for years now and it was thought that he would be the one to take over those duties meaning wide receiver/kick returner Roby would not be re-signed.
Well on Saturday afternoon, some of that was shown to be wrong. Roby tweeted earlier:
“6am flight 2moro back to NOLA…to re-sign with the Black & Gold. Now lets get this ring!!”
Making things even a bit more interesting is that Roby states he and Sproles are related somewhere along the line. Could be an interesting family tree return team.
In 2010, Roby finished with 785 return yards for an average of 23.8 yards per return. He went out late in the year after suffering an injury which saw him carted off the field and taken to the hospital.
