As the Kentucky State Fair winds down this weekend, be sure to catch Luke Bryan with Candy Coburn on Saturday night at Cardinal Stadium. Here are a few highlights from last weekend’s performances, and more news in the world of country music:
36 and Counting: The Oak Ridge Boys celebrated their 36th consecutive year at the Kentucky State Fair. The only other act that has been there longer is Freddie Farm Bureau out front. Their new album will be out in Cracker Barrel stores on September 19th.
Don Williams Still Golden: Don Williams prove he still has that swagger when it comes to performing. During this past Saturday’s sold out show at Renfro Valley, he let the music do the talking, as well as helped silence a rather loud fan in the audience. After the audience was getting annoyed with her antics, a fellow audience member yelled “we paid to hear Don not you.” Don simply replied, “Amen to what he just said,” as he took a sip of his coffee.
Grandpa News: Billy Ray Cyrus announced he is going to be a grandpa at the age of 50. His son Trace, and girlfriend, are expecting. He’s not the only grandpa. George Strait is going to be a Grandpa! Bubba Strait and his wife Tamara are expecting.
Whitney Duncan is a Survivor: Be on the lookout for Whitney Duncan on CBS’s Survivor: South Pacific. It starts September 14 on CBS!
CMA Award Nominee Announcement: Tuesday September 6th, the final nominees for “The 45th Annual CMA Awards” will be announced from two cities. The Band Perry and Jake Owen will announce the final nominees in five CMA Awards categories live from the “Good Morning America” at 8:30 AM/ET. Later on, Jerrod Niemann and Thompson Square will announce the finalists in seven CMA Awards categories from Nashville at a press conference at the historic Ryman Auditorium. Then the JaneDear girls will announce the finalists for the 2011 CMA Broadcast Award Personality and Radio Station of the Year in four categories as well as the finalists for the CMA National Broadcast Personality. “CMT Insider Special Edition: 2011 CMA Awards Nominations” will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 7 (11:30 AM/ET).
