Good news for those looking for great local wines and trying to avoid the heat and lines at the Bernalillo wine festival; all three outstanding Corrales wineries will be open. Milagro Winery and Acequia Vineyard and Winery will be open all three days, and Corrales Winery will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. These are three diverse and fun wineries to visit, and all within a few miles of each other in the charming village of Corrales.
If one is taking Meadowlark from Rio Rancho, or Loma Larga off Ellison, then the first stop would be Acequia Vineyards and Winery. Acequia offers red and white wines in dry and sweeter styles in a cozy tasting room on Reclining Acres Road off Loma Larga not far from Meadowlark. The Acequia 2009 Cooper’s Hawk Rose is a favorite of many wine lovers. There is signage on Loma Larga to guide you.
The next stop is only a short way north on Loma Larga and then a right onto West Ella. Milagro Winery is also celebrating the harvest of some of their grapes, so visitors will be able to experience the excitement of the harvest as well as sample excellent wines. Milagro offers a wide range of red and white wines that are well represented at many local restaurants. These wines are handcrafted from vine to wine with great attention to detail with many aged in French oak and rivaling those from across the pond. The lovely tasting room is located just off West Ella and has an outdoor area perfect for a picnic and a glass of one of Milagro’s signature wines.
Turning right out of Milagro, one can proceed to Corrales Road and turn left, heading north. Just before leaving the village, one will find Corrales Winery on the left. Look for the white buffalo sign, the symbol for this winery. The modern tasting room has breathtaking views of the Sandia Mountains, and a large picnic area. If you get there early, you should be able to get some of the Cabernet Sauvignon which is almost sold out.
What they save on gas and time will allow visitors to purchase more wine in relaxing settings, and maximize their enjoyment of a wine tasting tour of Corrales. Have a great Labor Day weekend!
