Citizens were comparing yesterdays shooting at the Chatham neighborhood to the “Wild West.” At about 3:30 pm police saw a gunman fatally shoot a man near 83rd St. and Cottage Grove Ave. The gunman fled the scene with another man in a vehicle as police followed in hot pursuit. Citizens reported that numerous shots were fired by the police and the suspects. Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy reiterated what the citizens claimed, that it was a gun battle on the streets of Chicago. McCarthy said that the shooting incident took about 3 minutes and when it was over, two suspects were arrested, and an unidentified man was killed, and a woman (who died later). A witness stated to reporters on the scene that she heard the shots and took cover inside her minivan as bullets pelted her vehicle. Officials reported that Moneet Baker, 22, was identified as the woman killed by the gunmen. Charges are pending for the two gunmen. No officers were injured in the gun battle.
