Clevelanders looking for a unique family-fun event need look no further than the Flats and the 5th annual Cleveland Dragon Boat Festival taking place on Saturday, September 17.
Cleveland Dragon Boat Festival The Festival begins with opening ceremonies on the patio deck of the historic Powerhouse located on the West Bank of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland’s Flats. Spectators then get to watch as the colorful, Asian decorated 22- person dragon boats compete in races down the Cuyahoga River throughout the day. Races are usually 500 meters and the average race takes 2-4 minutes with the team rowing in unison .
Special Note: There will be no commercial river traffic during the Festival.
The Festival will acknowledge dragon boat history and its connection with the Asian culture and its goal is to showcase the people and the unique cultures of Cleveland’s Asian community.
There is no admission for spectators and plenty of parking is available. The Dragon Boat Festival begins at the Powerhouse located at 2000 Sycamore Street in the Flats in downtown Cleveland. 216-221-1389.
