Most colleges and universities across the country now have Facebook pages, making it easy for students, new students and their parents to stay connected. For those who are headed to college this fall, keeping up-to-date on what’s happening at the college they are attending is easier than ever with this popular social media site.
Not just for students, the Facebook pages set up by these universities and colleges help parents stay involved. Updates on upcoming sports events, parents weekend information, photos, campus videos and a variety of other resources keep students and parents well-informed.
Whether students already live in the same state as the college they are attending, or are moving out of state for the first time, becoming a part of a college or university’s Facebook fan page makes the transition a little easier.
Additionally, Facebook is an excellent tool for high school juniors and seniors who are looking for more information on colleges here in Rhode Island. Campus information, financial aid resources, pictures and comments from current students are the perfect way for prospective students to get a snapshot of the colleges that they are interested in applying to.
The following is a list of colleges and universities here in Rhode Island. For those who are attending college in other states, head over to Google and enter “Facebook” along with the name of your college. Many schools also have a link to their Facebook page on their website. The website varsityoutreach.com is also an excellent resource for college Facebook pages.
Rhode Island colleges and universities with active Facebook pages:
Brown University: Brown’s Facebook page has plenty of information for prospective, new and current students. There are photos, links to student groups that have Facebook pages, an interactive comment wall and events information.
Bryant University: Photos, videos and consistent updates, Bryant has a list posted on their Facebook page titled, “25 Things About Bryant College” in the left sidebar. It is fun and informative.
Community College of Rhode Island: Recent updates on the textbook buyback program, scholarship information and answers to general campus questions are on the CCRI Facebook page. Photos and videos provide a peek inside the CCRI community.
Johnson & Wales University: Photos and some basic information make up J&W’s Facebook page. Content from the college is a bit lacking but updates provided by students provides excellent information as to what’s happening on campus.
New England Institute of Technology: Program information, events listings, an active wall of running questions and answers, as well as a tab to apply on-line are all part of NE Institute’s active Facebook page.
Providence College: The PC Facebook page has videos, photos and a feed for Friars sports scores on the page. The postings on the wall are more frequent and informative.
Rhode Island College: RIC has a very interactive and consistently updated Facebook page. The site has a variety of information, photos, videos and a tab for Rhode Island College’s Twitter feed make this an excellent page for parents and students to ‘like’.
Rhode Island School of Design: The RISD Facebook page is chock full of information, including photos, event listings and a wall with plenty of updates and comments. There is also a helpful tab in the left sidebar for job listings.
Roger Williams University: RWU has photos, active discussions and links to various university departments on it’s up-to-date Facebook page. There are also links to Facebook pages for RWU Sailing, RWU Law Alumni and Roger Williams University International Admission.
Salve Regina University: Salve’s Facebook page features upcoming events, plenty of campus photos, links to various departments on campus as well as a consistently updated discussion wall. There is also an area with RSS feeds for university news and athletics department updates.
University of Rhode Island: Prospective students, current students and parents will be well-informed about campus events, RAMS sports information, and campus news on this very busy Facebook page. The wall has many interactive conversations and updates.
Naval War College: “Like” this page and you will be provided with photos, videos, consistent updates and plenty of useful information. The page is very active with discussion and postings on news events at the college.
