Recipe for summer family fun: Cold Ben & Jerry’s and a hot Shelburne Museum fashion event
One hot Shelburne Museum fashion event:
Doll Fashion Extravaganza at Sunsets at Shelburne Museum, June 30, 2011, 6000 Shelburne Road, Shelburne, VT phone: 802-985-3346.
Young museum patrons, their favorite dolls, and their parents were treated to an evening of fun leading up to a fabulous fashion show. House of Chic Doll Salon, hair & make-up for your doll. House of Bling Accessories, marvelous jewelry making for you and your doll. Practice your moves for the catwalk with Madonna glam hits blaring at the Material Girl Photo Studio.
Three cold Ben & Jerry’s flavors and selection of beverages:
Everyone enjoyed a little refreshment under the tent before the runway excitement began.
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream was an enormous success. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough was the clear favorite of the evening. This examiner’s choice was the Mango, Mango Sorbet. It had a bright, tangy flavor. The other very popular flavor was Strawberry Shortcake.
Lemonade, Ice Tea and Water was also available.
The entire grounds of the museum were available to the families to discover and enjoy. A highlight for many was the current exhibit at the Webb Gallery, In Fashion: High Style, 1690-2011. Many of the guests participated in Madam Couture’s Fashion Show Challenge. Going through the exhibit each person had to answer questions, for example “Can you list two similarities the designers’ shoes have in common?”
This examiner would have like to spend more time here. There were notices not to take photographs of the designs, but I would have liked to have felt the glorious fabric. One was more stunning then the next.
Piece de la resistance: The Fashion Show Extravaganza
Karen Peterson, Director of Education and Public Programs, announced the young superstars and super dolls as they took to the runway as if they were born that way. A great many different looks, from cutesy to glamour girl, to look-a-like owner and doll fashions. Everyone had a fun and exciting time and was greeted with kudos and thunderous applause.
