As a follow up to the column I published about the United Nations and its eco-terrorist war on capitalism, there is another aspect of that story that must be addressed.
From the same article by Dan Gainor that was cited heavily in the U.N. column:
“Ironically, the report came out just one day after climate scientists were complaining that Chinese coal use was driving a temporary bout of ‘global cooling.’ As the liberal Huffington Post explained, the cooling is from ‘all that sulfur pollution in the air from China’s massive coal-burning, according to a new study.’”
Let’s take a closer look at that HuffPo article:
Sulfur particles in the air deflect the sun’s rays and can temporarily cool things down a bit. That can happen even as coal-burning produces the carbon dioxide that contributes to global warming.
“People normally just focus on the warming effect of CO2 (carbon dioxide), but during the Chinese economic expansion there was a huge increase in sulfur emissions,” which have a cooling effect, explained Robert K. Kaufmann of Boston University.
On the surface, it would appear to make sense that sulfur has a cooling effect and that CO2 has a warming effect, but here’s the catch: climatologists said in the 1970s that human pollutants like CO2 would cause a new ice age:
During the nuclear revolution of 1940 to 1970, we humans created all these nukes and blew them up via multiple tests, not to mention we built all these cars and tanks and planes and used them for wars, which spewed a ton of crap into the air and caused carbon levels to rise from about 290 PPM’s in 1940 to 330 by 1970, a significantly sharp increase. But despite of all this, the global temperature went DOWN from 0.1 degrees Celsius in 1940 to -0.1 degrees Celsius in 1970!!
After this 30 year cooling period, climatologists around the world freaked out over ‘global cooling,’ and they claimed that it was caused by…you guessed it, human being beings! They claimed that less sunlight was reaching the earth because pollutants emitted by humans were blocking the sun. They claimed that the earth’s temperature would decrease by 6 degrees Celsius in 10 years. Time Magazine ran an article in 1974 predicting a new ice age. The global cooling scare-mongers got alot of their information from Dr. James Hansen, who was the Director of the NASA Institute for Space Studies. But today, Hansen has done a 180 on man made global cooling is now a lead advisor to Al Gore in the crusade against man made global warming.
What does this mean? It means that the hysteria of man made global cooling was FALSE! It was a FRAUD! None of their predictions on global cooling came true, even as more and more greenhouse gases were spit into the atmosphere. And yet, these same eco-terrorists want us Americans to give away our freedoms in the name of their new scare tactic: man made global warming.
In short, environmentalists have gone from fearmongering about global cooling to fearmongering about global warming to claiming coal emissions cause both global cooling and global warming.
And all the while they have claimed the government must pass totalitarian laws punishing coal companies and other greenhouse gas emitters.
A series of economic and energy experts detailed the effect one particular law would have had on Michigan and the city of Detroit:
Between 2012 (when the restrictions first apply) and 2035 (the last year of this analysis), the prices of electricity and gasoline will rise sharply when compared to prices in a world without cap and trade. By 2035, Americans living in the state of Michigan will see their electricity prices rise by $862.66 and their gasoline prices rise by $1.48 per gallon solely because of Waxman-Markey.
As the economy adjusts to shrinking gross domestic product (GDP) and rising energy prices, employment will take a big hit in Michigan. Beginning in 2012, job losses will be 52,156 higher than without a cap-and-trade bill in place. And the number of jobs lost will only go up, increasing to 99,271 by 2035.
Higher gas prices, higher electricity rates, and massive job losses.
Just what Detroit needs!
