The WWE presented another solid version of Monday Night Raw on Monday night, July 25. The show was highlighted by a couple of big returns, including Oklahoma’s own Jim Ross heading back to the announcer’s table.
The big angle on WWE Raw featured Triple H taking control of the show on his first night in charge since firing Vince McMahon from his day-to-day duties in the federation. The first order of business was crowing a new WWE Champion.
- WWE Promos
In a rare instance, the WWE did nto start with a promo and someone coming out to the ring to talk. The very first thing that happened on Raw this week was the WWE Championship match between Rey Mysterio and The Miz. After the match, there was a silly celebration with everyone spraying Mysterio with wine and Rey telling his kids he was coming home with the belt.
Of course, none of that mattered because Triple H came out for his “State of the Union” address. He announced that he had rehired someone and, while fans chanted for CM Punk, he brought out Oklahoma’s own Jim Ross. Jim Ross has been rehired and will provide commentary with Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole. Of course, Cole was mad and threw a fit. This means he gets a match tonight.
Next, The Truth came out and Triple H was hilarious mocking The Truth by talking to his own invisible friends. When The Truth tried to walk out on the conversation, Triple H welcomed back John Morrison who killed The Truth. It’s nice to see Morrison back.
I skipped the crap with “Keith Stone” and the Bella Twins. It was stupid.
The Miz got interviewed backstage and was mad.
- WWE Undercard Matches
Dolph Zigler took on Evan Bourne and pretty much squashed Bourne. I don’t understand why they don’t push Bourne harder than they do. He is exciting but rarely ever wins any big matches.
There was a Divas match pitting Kelly Kelly and Eve against Melina and Maryse. It sucked, like most WWE Diva matches do.
The Michael Cole came out to Hunter’s music and acted like Trips on his way to the ring. His opponent was the Internet darling and one of CM Punk’s favorite underdogs, Zack Ryder. I thought the match sucked and Ryder’s finisher looked pretty bad against Cole but – you know – WOO WOO WOO!
Alberto del Rio got his rematch against Kofi Kingston and avenged his loss from last week. Del Rio won this time around, so you should expect a rubber match next week or in the near future.
- WWE Championship
Rey Mysterio beat The Miz for the WWE Championship. While I would have liked to see The Miz take the belt again, I understood the decision. However, it was ruined thanks to Triple H. Of course, Alberto del Rio came out to cash in his briefcase but ran away when he saw Mysterio was still able to compete.
By the way, isn’t this the kind of thing (quick title defense) that made Christian turn bad?
Of course, Rey Mysterio had to defend his title against John Cena in the most unfair match of all time. However, the match was spectacular. Rey and John started off slow and boring but, once it picked up steam, they were hitting on all cylinders. Let me get to the BAD. I was pissed that Rey lost his title to Cena because I hate John always seeming unbeatable.
After the match ended and John Cena was celebrating, “Cult of Personality” by Living Colour started playing and I knew exactly what it meant. Who in the WWE is the Cult of Personality? Yep, CM PUNK is back. He came to the ring with a new t-shirt, new music and new entrance video and his WWE Championship. Cena held up his title and then Punk held up his. Then Cena left in shame.
Awesome ending for Raw. That makes it four of the last five to have a great conclusion.
