CM Punk made his surprise return at the end of WWE RAW and confronted John Cena who had just recaptured the new WWE championship. However, with CM Punk returning, the WWE has to decide who is really the champion. Monday’s episode of RAW ended with Punk holding up his WWE championship in Cena’s face as Cena stared and then left the ring.
In late June, CM Punk shocked the world with his amazing promo that ripped into the WWE and the McMahon family. CM Punk was suspended by the WWE after his promo. On the July 4th episode of WWE RAW, Cena was given his match against CM Punk at the MITB PPV, but Vince added that if Cena lost, then he would be fired. The July 11th episode of RAW saw McMahon and CM Punk have a very public contract negotiation that ended with Punk ripping up the contract and saying he’s leaving. And finally, Punk won the WWE championship from Cena in a memorable match at the Money In The Bank PPV on Sunday, July 17th.
WWE News – Big Show credits HHH for his success
Despite the buzz over Punk’s return, I believe it was too soon to bring him back. After an incredible buildup to Punk’s departure, and his storybook victory in front of his hometown, the WWE failed to deliver a satisfactory payoff as they brought Punk back too soon. The WWE should have kept him out for at least 1 month and in my opinion closer to 2 to 3 months. Punk could have terrorized the WWE through appearances and social media outbursts, all the while claiming he’s still the champion. Despite what the WWE does from this point on, Punk’s historical chapter has taken a turn for the worse in regards to the WWE choosing to pull the trigger too soon on his return.
Do you readers think the WWE brought him back too soon?
