My family and I moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah, nearly two years ago and we are still finding little gems to visit and try out. One of our new family favorites is the Chubby’s Café. This cute little place is located across the street from the Macey’s Supermarket in Pleasant Grove and right next to a gas station at 670 West State Road.
The owners are brothers Michael and Thomas Moak. They opened their doors in April of 2010. They offer amazing burgers but even more amazing are their beer-battered French fries. They are delicious plain, with ketchup, or Utah’s own special fry sauce. However, if fries are not your thing there is a large variety of sides available: jambalaya, hush puppies, baked beans, coleslaw, mac n’ cheese, scones, and side salad. Occasionally, they may offer special sides such as potato salad and red beans and rice. So far my personal favorite is the Jalapeno Bacon Ranch Chicken Sandwich. It is a mouth full to say and so worth the price which includes the delicious beer battered French fries or any other side you decide to try.
On one wall they have two sets of photos: Those who have completed the Chubby’s Challenge (Hall of Fame) and those who have not (Hall of Shame). Of course, far more individuals have failed than achieved success with the Chubby’s Challenge. The Chubby’s Challenge consists of: one pound of meat (three patties) stacked in between three grilled cheese sandwiches and one pound of regular French fries. The cost of the meal is $11.99 and the meal must be completed within the 15 minute time frame. If you do manage to finish the monster burger and fries you get to choose your prize: a ten dollar gift card for your next visit or a Chubby’s t-shirt. It is recommended that you take the awesome t-shirt because each time you come in with your Chubby’s t-shirt on you get 10% off your order. Don’t forget, you also get to have your photo posted as a challenge winner on the wall for all to see. If you do not complete the challenge within the 15 minute time frame you have to pay for your meal, take home the rest for leftovers, and have your photo taken for the wall of shame for all to see. However, do not feel too defeated if you fail; about 150 people have failed the challenge. With only about 45 people having actually completed it and this includes at least one woman!
Chubby’s also holds special summertime events such as a crawfish boil, catfish fry, and a pig roast. The cooking is done outside with additional sitting available. These are popular events to attend so check out Chubby’s to see when the next one is scheduled. Don’t forget to pre-order or stop by for some delicious deep fried turkey in the month of November. Call them at (801) 785-1503 for more information.
So stop by on your lunch break or take the family out to try a new place. Chubby’s offers wonderful service, amazing food, and affordable prices. Hours of operation are Monday – Thursday 11am – 8:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays 11am – 10pm, and closed on Sundays. ‘Like’ them on Facebook and let them know how much you like them after your visit.
