Dating back to the late 1970’s, and now spanning five decades, the annual Christmas presentation by the music ministry at Riverside Baptist Church in Denver is scheduled for this coming weekend. Michael Evans, Riverside’s Worship Minister, informs us,
Every year Riverside Baptist Church hosts an event we call Christmas in Colorado. There is a rich history of dramatic productions and musical performances, including everything from live animals, Handel’s Messiah and ensembles and children’s choirs. In recent years, and especially this year, there has been a shift in focus from the performance-based, dramatic production to the more intimate, participatory worship event. The main reason for this change really goes back to the Christmas story itself. When recording Jesus’ birth, the gospel writers went to great lengths to portray the response of the shepherds and the wise men when they learned of Jesus birth. Their response was to find Jesus and worship Him! That’s the heart of Riverside in response to the Christmas story. We want to seek Jesus and worship Him…and we want others to join us!
On Saturday night, Dec.10 we want to invite people from all across the Denver area to join us for worship. There will be all kinds of homemade cookies and hot drinks available in the foyer, and first-time guests will receive a free stainless-steel carabiner-handle coffee mug. Come a few minutes early to enjoy refreshments while familiar Christmas carols play in the background.
We will repeat the same service on Sunday morning, Dec.11 at 10:45 am, but limited seating will be available at that time. We look forward to celebrating this special time with you!
