The San Jose Earthquakes settled for a 2-2 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Chris Wondolowski scored two goals against Vancouver for his 7th and 8th goals respectively for the 2011 season. It wasn’t enough, however, as Vancouver’s Eric Hassli answered with his own two goals to force a 2-2 draw.
Wondolowski scored the first goal in the third minute before several fans were settled in their seats. The Quakes appeared to be the better of the two teams in the first half with several scoring chances. Before the half ended however, Hassli scored in the 42nd minute to equalize.
In the second half, Wondolowski put the Quakes ahead with his tally in the 54th minute, but less than 10 minutes later, Hassli found the back of the net to equalize once again in the 61st minute. San Jose’s Steven Lenhart almost scored the go ahead goal for the Quakes in the 84th minute but missed an open net wide to the right.
With the draw, the Earthquakes now have a 5-6-9 record and extended their winless streak to seven games.
The Earthquakes will travel to Salt Lake, UT to play Real Salt Lake on Saturday, July 23, 2011 before hosting D.C. United on Saturday, July 30, 2011.
