There is nothing better than starting a Sunday morning with family and a delicious, piping hot breakfast. Chompie’s, Arizona’s New York bakery and deli, serves up some delicious morning eats, including skillets, omelets, and originals, like their scrumptious breakfast sliders. Mini challah rolls are filled with potato pancakes, turkey sausage patties, a fried egg and American cheese. They are then plated with a side of home fries and country gravy for dipping.
All kinds of other options fill the menu, from breakfast classics like corned beef hash and eggs, to south of the border options, including breakfast tacos with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, green chilies, tomatoes, green onions, cheese, avocado, sour cream, salsa, and a side of black beans. Want something sweet for breakfast? Try the strawberry shortcake pancakes or the yummy stuffed French toast filled with whipped cream cheese and strawberry jam. Or if you really want some traditional New York fare, you can get a variety of fish including lox, baked salmon, smoked whitefish, among others, served with a freshly baked bagel or bialy, onion, tomatoes, cucumber, olives and your choice of cream cheese. The options are almost limitless and can be quite confusing if you arrive super hungry!
If you can believe it, there are even more lunch and dinner options including more than a dozen different types of mile high sandwiches, soups, signature sandwiches, salads, appetizers, hot sandwiches, burgers, and traditional dinners such as corned beef and cabbage, braised beef brisket, and a pirogue platter. You can literally go back every day and never eat the same thing!
This restaurant, bagel factory, and bakery has been a hot spot in the valley since 1979, when the Borenstein family, originally from Queens, New York, opened their doors in Phoenix. Due to popular demand, two additional locations opened up, but in recent years, the people of Chandler have been lucky to have one in town on W. Frye Rd., just across the street from Chandler Fashion Center. It has become so popular in fact, that Chompie’s ultimate slider challenge has recently been featured on Man vs. Food. Participants are challenged to eat a dozen of the original Jewish sliders, which are filled with a potato pancake, brisket and jack cheese, and a side of onion strings, in less than 30 minutes. Winners get a special place on Chompie’s website’s wall of fame and a free t-shirt.
The bakery section of Chompie’s has just as much notoriety. If you are a fan of baked good, there is no way that you can’t be a fan of this bakery! Upon entering the front doors, one is welcomed by rows and rows of cakes, rugulach, cookies, cannoli, fruit tarts, cholcolate pretzels, and biscotti, that glisten under the light of the glass display cases. Bagels of all flavors, sweet or savory, fill bins behind the glass display cases. Chompie’s also has a display case full of a dozen or more cream cheese flavors including strawberry, spinach artichoke, chive, and others.
It’s also worth mentioning that Chompie’s keeps the health conscious in mind by offering a fitness boot camp breakfast menu and gluten free brownies and fruit tarts for those with special dietary needs.
For all of you food lovers, crunch on that! Munch on that! Chomp on that!
