Shortly after the Dallas Cowboys let him go, Marion Barber signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears on Saturday. He is the second former Cowboys star to go to Chicago, following wide receiver Roy Williams who signed a one-year deal on Friday.
Marion Barber’s fantasy football appeal will be limited though, playing behind Matt Forte in the lineup. However, Roy Williams gets a fresh start and might earn time as one of the top targets of quarterback Jay Cutler.
Barber spent the last six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, running for 4,358 yards and 47 touchdowns, ranking sixth in the NFL during that span. He also added 1,280 yards receiving.
Roy Williams reunites with offensive coordinator Mike Martz, who he worked with in Detroit. Williams totaled 146 catches for 2,148 yards and 12 touchdowns over two seasons (including a career-high 1,310 yards in 2006). Thanks to his familiarity with Martz’s offense and Cutler’s upside at quarterback, Williams might be in for a breakout year.
In non-fantasy news, the Bears also signed former Houston Texans nose-tackle Amobi Okoye and special teams player Corey Graham.
